|Make Basic Turnshoes! (Lord Robert of Ferness)
||Time: 4 Hours
||Class Size: 8
|Description: Come and make a pair of basic turnshoes for yourself. Working in pairs, we will mold each other's feet using old socks and duct tape. We will convert the molds into leather uppers and soles, then stitch those together to make shoes. By the end of the class you should be well along to completing your first shoe, and you can then make the other to match as time allows. We will discuss pros and cons of technique and compare to historical methods. Various books will be available to examine. You will see all the steps in the process, and complete as many as time allows yourself. Brown leather will be provided. You are welcome to bring your own instead; it should be of weight / thickness 4.5-5 oz. (1.7-2mm). The materials fee will be reduced to $5 for those supplying their own leather. Advance registration is recommended for this class; contact email@example.com to register.|
|Student Supplies: Two old socks that will be destroyed in making a foot mold. If you wear orthotics in your modern shoes, bring those as well. If possible, bring duct tape and a Sharpie and paper scissors. A camera to take photos of the process may be useful.|
