We can all find ways to "up" our game, whether by adorning a garment with intricate embroidery, embellishing a tale, adding flourish to a calligraphed signature, or garnishing a tasty dish.
If you've been wanting to add a “little extra” -- to your clothing, your kit, your craft, or your camp -- we invite you to attend AEthelmearc AEcademy and War College, hosted on Saturday, June 16, 2018, by the Shire of Abhainn Ciach Ghlais.
With the theme "Adornments, Embellishments, Flourishes, and Garnishes," this event will provide you with the inspiration and know-how to kickstart that project or plan.
To achieve this, we encourage teachers to offer classes that will inspire students to “kick it up a notch.” Please consider sharing your knowledge, skills, and passions with AEthelmearc by teaching a class (or two!)
To register to teach a class (or two!), go to: https://aecademy.net/registration/ . If you are planning to teach at Pennsic, consider offering a trial-run at AEcademy.
Because we will be using TWO venues for this event, we will have plenty of space, indoors and out, to accommodate a wide range of classes, including the martial as well as peaceful arts.
Both venues, located within easy walking distance, will open at 9:00 AM.
Having two kitchens means that those wishing to teach hands-on cooking classes will be able to do so without interfering with lunch prep.
Venue #1 -- Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church (120 Main Street, Hughesville PA 17737) offers typical classrooms; it is accessible and has convenient parking, but it is not air-conditioned. Smoking, pets, alcohol, and open flames are not permitted in the church. This venue will close at 6:00 PM.
Venue #2 -- Hughesville Volunteer Fire Department Social Hall (26 N Railroad St, Hughesville, PA 17737) -- gives us access to a large, flat open field that can accommodate any number of fighters and fencers, with plenty of space for dayshades and pavilions.
The Social Hall has one large open room with a stage at one end. This venue is especially suited for multi-hour, messy classes. Brewers wishing to offer classes or organize a Guild Roundtable are welcome to do so at this venue. It is accessible, has convenient parking, and is air-conditioned. Smoking is not permitted inside the hall. This venue closes at 7:00 PM.
The Adult Event Registration for the event is $15.00. For those with a current SCA membership card, the Adult Member Discount Event Registration is $10.00. (Registration includes lunch.) Teens between the ages of 13 and 17 pay $5.00; children 12 and under are free. Please send reservations to Lady Deirdre Kildare, mka Tammy Burke, 1335 Four Mile Drive, Williamsport PA 17701. Checks should be made payable to “SCA PA, Inc – Shire of ACG.”
Those who wish to eat off site will find several restaurants within easy walking distance; more (including fast food) restaurants are located less than two miles from the site.
Several well-known hotel chains are located in Williamsport PA, a 15-mile drive.
Some crash space will also be available; to make arrangements for crash space, contact THL Aibell at ladyaibell at yahoo dot com.
If you have questions about the event, please contact the Autocrat, Mistress Alicia Langland, at hutchnsn AT bucknell DOT edu .
